Iluka - Burns Beach
Iluka - Burns Beach is a new residential area, with substantial bushland in the north. Iluka - Burns Beach is bounded by the City of Wanneroo in the north, Marmion Avenue in the east, Shenton Avenue in the south and the Indian Ocean in the west. Iluka is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “near the sea”. Burns Beach is named after an early farmer in the area. It was originally known as Burns.
Development of the area dates primarily from the 1990s, with the population increasing rapidly from about 300 in 1991 to over 4,000 in 2006. The population nearly quadrupled between 1996 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area. The population is expected to continue to increase, largely from the Burns Beach estate.
Major features of the area include Burns Beach Bushland, Burns Beach and Sir James McCusker Park.
